The Government of India has undertaken a significant overhaul of the medical education system to ensure uniformity and enhance the quality of medical training across the country. As part of this transformative initiative, the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate) exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), was introduced in 2017, replacing the erstwhile AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test).

This restructuring process was not without challenges, as it involved nearly five years of deliberations and hearings on multiple petitions before the Supreme Court of India, ultimately leading to the discontinuation of the AIPMT exam.
